Growing Talent

Yorkshire based social enterprise Create and Forster Community College are cooking up a feast in West Yorkshire to buck the trend of doom and gloom. Both organisations are passionate about great food and are just as passionate about people. Sheila Philpot, Chief Executive of Forster Community College said, “our work together is not just about great local food but about reaching people furthest from the job market and giving them confidence to succeed. Through our shared aims we are working together on this exciting event”.

Two groups of trainees, one from Create, the other from Forster Community College, many of whom have come from disadvantaged backgrounds, experienced homelessness or other barriers in life , will source, plan and serve a gourmet dinner at Foster Community College on Thursday 24th  May 2012 to paying customers.

Sarah Dunwell, Chief Executive of Create said “this is no mean feat in itself but when you add in the challenge of going to the producers to find and see the products and then take those products and develop them in master classes in some of Yorkshires best kitchens and restaurants, it’s a huge undertaking. Every moment of the day at Create we think about great food but also about the experiences that people need to succeed in work. This day is a great example of that.”

Before devising and delivering a four course dinner and canapé reception the teams will see the best of Yorkshire produce as it is grown and produced. The field visits will include an award winning goats cheese maker, recently featured on The Great British Menu, a top of the range gourmet farm shop and a visit to a top retailers development kitchen.

The event will culminate under the guidance of Creates Head Chef and  Foster Community College Chefs with a canapé reception and dinner showcasing the best the region has to offer in both food and talent. Richard Walton-Allen National Executive Chef at Create said “we are delighted to work in partnership with Forster Community College and we couldn’t think of a better way to highlight the work we do every day in this great area with a fantastic group of talented inspirational people”
