How it works

Each person has a different path to employment. At Create we believe that a job is about more than money, it is about dignity, enjoyment, choice and opportunity. Each person begins their journey to a job at a different place and progresses at a different pace, but we believe that journey is best done supported and accompanied.

The Create Academy gives people, especially those who were formerly homeless or sleeping rough, a formal, structured route to employment. It combines real work experience, accredited training and personal support to help trainees find and keep a job.

About the Academy

Our Academy offers a personal pathway to work as well as a hub for organisations that work with homeless people to come together and join up their services.

Because each person’s journey is different we offer a simple map.

Exploration Day

Every month we host a day to explore employment. Each person reflects on their skills and personality, the types of jobs people do, the barriers to them getting the perfect job and the things we can do together to overcome those barriers.

After that day people can choose to move straight into employment or choose a route to support them into the perfect job.

The Employment Academy

Some people need a little longer and a little more confidence to break down those barriers to work. In our Employment Academy people spend up to three months in our businesses learning the habits and disciplines of work, supported by specialist coaches. Their work placement places them in a great position to go on to a jobs in the hospitality sector or the wider working world. Trainees also gain work experience across all our businesses, which helps them think about and plan what they want to do with their future career.

Our catering business provides high quality, professional food services and trainees will:

•learn food hygiene, preparation and presentation skills

•gain valuable experience working alongside qualified chefs

•develop important customer service and communication skills.

Our Create restaurant in Leeds provides kitchen and front of house training opportunities. Trainees will:

•learn food hygiene, preparation and presentation skills

•work alongside qualified chefs and hospitality professionals

•develop customer service, cash handling, sales and marketing skills.
